1. The Mission & Vision (The “Why”)
What is the big problem you are trying to solve in the world? This is what gets people out of bed in the morning.
2. Core Values in Action (The “How”)
Instead of just saying “Respect,” our template uses: “We respect each other’s time by starting meetings at exactly 9:00 AM.” Be specific.
3. “We Are Not…” (The Boundaries)
A great culture code also defines what you won’t tolerate. For example: “We are not a place for ‘brilliant jerks’—no matter how talented someone is, kindness is mandatory.”
4. Rituals & Traditions (The “Fun”)
Do you have “Demo Fridays”? Do you celebrate “Failure of the Month”? Documenting these rituals makes new hires feel like part of the family instantly.

3 Rules for Creating an Authentic Culture Code

Don’t Copy Netflix or Google: Your culture should reflect your team. If you are a 5-person startup, don’t try to sound like a multinational corporation.

Hire and Fire Based on Values: If someone consistently breaks your core values but hits their sales targets, keeping them will destroy your culture. The code must have teeth.

It Starts at the Top: If the CEO doesn’t follow the culture code, no one else will. Lead by example, not just by PowerPoint.
